The Best Christmas Pageant Ever

If you have not seen this play before, read the book by Barbara Robinson, or seen the TV movie adaptation you would not realize how it became a contemporary children?s classic almost immediately. The Herdman children are a gang of lying, thieving thugs. Grace and Bob Bradley are desperately trying to cast their Sunday school?s Christmas play. The Herdmans show up at the church just because they heard there were snacks. Even though they have never heard of the Christmas story, they decide to take over the annual Christmas pageant. They think of Mary and Joseph as refugees and can't understand why child welfare hasn?t gotten called in for a baby sleeping in a barn. Their interpretation of the tale has some of the judgmental church ladies in a lather. The Herdmans wrangle leading roles in the play and accidentally teach everyone the true meaning of Christmas.
